What is Hampton Roads?
 
Hampton Roads is basically a nickname for our area, it was also known as the Tidewater area in the past.  It is comprised of seven cities in the area, including Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Hampton and Newport News.  The first 5 cities are also known as Southside Hampton Roads or just the Southside.  Hampton & Newport News are normally referred to as the Peninsula area.  Most people moving to our area prefer to live and work on the Southside.
